Help Make Study Abroad a Reality for LGBTQIA+ Students!
Each year the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) provides funding for LGBTQIA+ undergraduate students to study abroad and nearly half of all FEA scholarship applicants identify as LGBTQIA+.
The Rainbow SIG has partnered with FEA to create an endowment for the Rainbow Scholarship fund, which provides funding specifically for LGBTQIA+ students.
Recipients of the Rainbow Scholarship are deserving LGBTQIA+ students who aim to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs. They are asked to give back to their home, host, and LGTBQIA+ communities. Many LGBTQIA+ students are financially independent from their families, making funding study abroad challenging. The FEA Rainbow Scholarship fund was created specifically to address that need.
Join us in making the FEA Rainbow Scholarship a sustainable endowed fund with a sponsorship of the Rainbow SIG’s 30th Anniversary celebration in association with NAFSA in Washington, DC on May 31!
Thank you for considering this opportunity to support LGBTQIA+ students and their dreams to study abroad in safe and healthy environments!
The FEA’s Rainbow Scholarship was founded in memory of Dave Burkhart, a man who never earned a college degree, but who greatly admired the courage of the earnest international students with whom his partner and a long-time Rainbow SIG Board Member, Bo Keppel, worked.
The Rainbow Scholarship is awarded to deserving applicants who self-identify within the community. All U.S. citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled as an undergraduate at a U.S. institution of higher education and looking to study abroad are eligible to apply.
