San Diego LGBTQ+ History Tour @ NAFSA National Conference
May 28, 2025 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Back by popular demand, Rainbow SIG is once again sponsoring a queer history walking tour of our NAFSA host city! This event will be limited to 25 registrants. We will be paying per person, so please only sign up if you are positive you will attend.
Event Information:
- WHO? All current and future Rainbow SIG members are welcome! You do not need to be a NAFSA attendee to join us on the walking tour.
- WHEN? Wednesday, May 28 @ 3pm – 4:30pm
- WHERE? San Diego’s Hillcrest neighborhood (~15 min car ride from NAFSA). Exact meeting location will be sent to the first 25 registrants.
- COST? Free! We’re footing the bill. We will also be providing the guide with gratuities, but you are welcome to tip an additional amount.
This 1.1-mile, 1.5 hours walking tour of Hillcrest covers San Diego’s LGBTQ history with stories of some of its earliest gay bars, the hate crimes plaque, Harvey Milk Street, the Center, the Rainbow Flag and much more. The tour covers the people, places and events that made San Diego’s “gayborhood” the vibrant community it is today.
The meeting point for this tour is a 12-minute walk from our Rainbow Reception location, Rich’s. Since the walking tour and the Rainbow Reception are on the same day, this will give everyone the great opportunity to attend both events and spend the afternoon in San Diego’s Hillcrest “gayborhood”. Feel free to hang out in between and grab a bite from one of Hillcrest’s many local bars and restaurants. Doors to the Rainbow Reception open at 8pm.
