Rainbow SIG Networking Happy Hour in Chicago

For those that don’t know me, I’m Jason Schroeder and I am the Graphic Designer here at IES Abroad, as well as a co-chair of NAFSA’s Rainbow SIG. I, along with Angie Schaffer from the Fund for Education Abroad, am pleased to invite our Chicago-area members to a fundraising and networking happy hour here in Chicago that will be held to raise funds for the Rainbow Scholarship and get to know others in our community and field! We would be thrilled to have you join us on Tuesday, October 18^th at 5:30pm to have a drink, eat some food, raise funds, or even just chat with others in the field! Donations are appreciated, but not required!

• When? Tuesday, October 18 @ 5:30pm (the day before the start of the National Scholarship Providers Association Annual Conference in Chicago)

• Who? All LGBTQIA+ community members and allies in (or friends of) the field are welcome to join! There will be members of Rainbow SIG, IES Abroad, and other areas of the field in attendance. We encourage you to invite colleagues or friends from other universities or study abroad/scholarship providers in the Chicago area!
• Why? To raise money for the FEA Rainbow Scholarship, which is awarded to LGBTQIA+ students who oftentimes come from lesser financial means than other students due to being financially independent, sometimes having been kicked out the house after coming out or having been subjected to abuse as a result of being true to who they are. Other students we work with are not “out” with their families or at their schools here in the U.S., and long to find a community abroad. Many of our Rainbow Scholars research LGBTQIA+ rights and lives abroad, and become involved in human rights work when they return to the U.S.
• Can I donate even if I don’t come to the event? Absolutely! To donate, please visit fundforeducationabroad.org/donate/, pick your gift amount, and be sure to choose “Rainbow Scholarship” in the drop down for the “Where can we designate your gift?” field!
