Rainbow Scholarship
Help Make Study Abroad a Reality for LGBTQIA+ Students!
The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) provides scholarships for LGBTQIA+ undergraduate students to study abroad, with nearly half of all FEA applicants identifying as LGBTQIA+. In partnership with FEA, the Rainbow SIG established the Rainbow Scholarship fund to support LGBTQIA+ students, many of whom face financial barriers due to family independence. Recipients of the Rainbow Scholarship are deserving LGBTQIA+ students who aim to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs. They are asked to give back to their home, host, and LGTBQIA+ communities. This scholarship was created to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent LGBTQIA+ students from accessing transformative international experiences.

Our preferred method of donation is via PayPal because it is quick, efficient, and includes limited processing fees. You can also donate directly on FEA’s website or email Co-Chair@RainbowSIG.org to request payment via invoice.

The Rainbow Scholarship is awarded to deserving applicants who self-identify within the community. All U.S. citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled as an undergraduate at a U.S. institution of higher education and looking to study abroad are eligible to apply.

The Fund for Education Abroad’s Rainbow Scholarship was founded in memory of Dave Burkhart, a man who never earned a college degree, but who greatly admired the courage of the earnest international students with whom his partner and a long-time Rainbow SIG Board Member, Bo Keppel, worked.
