Develops and maintains relationships with overseas agencies and institutions and participates in recruitment and College promotion activities including correspondence with prospective students, agencies and institutions.

Director of Gender and LGBTQ Center
Elon University

Elon University invites applications for our newly created position of the Director of Gender and LGBTQ Center. Apply by January 20th to be assured consideration. Elon is a dynamic private, co-educational, comprehensive, residential university that is a national model for actively engaging faculty and students in teaching and learning. Elon is one of seven private universities in the nation with accredited schools of law, business, communications, and education, along with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter, which promotes the liberal arts and sciences. The University is situated midway between North Carolina’s Triad and the Research Triangle.

The director is the visible leader for advancing LGBTQ issues and serves as the clearinghouse for issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression. The Director provides resources and programming, community building and support for the LGBTQ community. This position reports to both the Vice President for Student Life and Associate Provost for Inclusive Community. A Master’s degree in related field is required and post M.A. graduate work and/or teaching experience desirable. Experience collaborating with multiple offices; training and creating education programs on a college campus; working with students and student organizations; and working with LGBTQ communities and gender and sexuality issues and identity-formation are essential. With appropriate credentials, the Director may teach one course a year in the Women’s/Gender Studies (WGS) program.
The Director will be a visible and welcoming convener, leader and advocate for all members of LGBTQ students, faculty and staff. She or he will provide programming and support for Elon and the broader community about issues of gender and sexuality, conduct Safe Zones trainings, serve as advisor to SPECTRUM and other student groups, provide leadership training for student leaders, work with Elon’s LGBTQ alumni group and coordinate LGBTQ education programs and community building activities. The Director will collaborate with the Multicultural Center, WGS and the Office of Leadership and Professional Development on gender and sexuality education programming and with Human Resources on recruitment and retention issues. The Director will serve as a member of the University’s Inclusive Community Council, the Bias and Harassment Education and Response teams, and the Sexual Assault and Gender Issues Council.
